986 -> 987 conversion anyone ?
 
Hi,

I found this Belgium website from a company which makes (as far as the prictures look) an awesome 986 -> 987 conversion (yes, the car in the picture is a 986)

Does anyone know a "local" source for such a conversion?

Actually, they call it a conversion to a 997 because of the 997 style headlights.

But really, would you buy a conversion from a company that doesn't know how to spell Boxster? :eek:

If I wanted to turn my 986 into a 987 or 997, I think I'd choose the "Trade-in" route as opposed to the "Tuner" option. I like the styling of the 896 and aspects of the 987, but combining them is a little too Frankenboxster for me.

I really like the 987 headlights and bumper, but the side intakes and interior of the 986 are much more appealing to me... perhaps Frankenboxster ain't so bad.:rolleyes:

Hey Chris, since you're a fellow, "City of Good Livin'" neighbor. I'd love to hear your GHL some time. They are so loved and hated, but I've never had the pleasure of hearing one, "live".

maybe i don't get it, but this reminds me of an expression we use to use where i come from, and which i can't use here on this board. but the expression says something about the fact that some things can't be polished......;) wouldn't it be no more expensive to just trade for what you want? i guess to each his own, but for the difference in looks, who's going to notice? outside of a few porsche nuts, that is.

Hi, Chris. No accounting for taste, but: I wouldn't do the conversion.

The 986 is a package deal; it has its own character, a combination of its exterior and interior appearance, and of its handling and power characteristics. I happen to think it's a classic. Though I'm not a fan of the 986 interior, each time I see one these days I think the model's body form is very classic in that it harkens back to an older, "less is more" sports car design aesthetic. The 987 looks great, and I also admire them when I see them, but increasingly it's an apples to oranges comparison for me.

If you want a 987, get one. If you want a 997, get one of those. But if you're simply trying to breathe new life into your 986, try this: Borrow or rent a normal passenger car for two weeks and drive only it, not your 986 at all. Then drive your 986. You will fall in love with it all over again.

Hi y'all.

All good and valid comments. I loooooooove my 986 and it puts a big smile on my face every morning and every evening going to and back from work (it's my daily commuter).
But I have to admit that I have never been a fan of the shape of the (broken egg) headlights. I think the 993 lights and the 987/997 lights are simply much cleaner.

But then again: I can't neither afford the conversion nor the trade-in (which I wouldn't want to do anyway), so I'll stay happy with my 986 (and I hope for many miles and years to come)

I think this conversion is great! I don't know that it is worth putting the $$ into it.

However, given the choice I would take the 997 look on a 986 over a 997. I happen to be a BIG fan of the mid-engine layout. :D
