Other Driver's Behavior on the Road

hi All,

First time on this forum and first time Porsche owner. Actually driving a loaner Porsche Cayenne as ours has not yet arrived from Europe.

I had the oddest experience this morning and was wondering if this is normal? I've never experienced this while driving our Lexus SUV.

I was on the way to driving my child to school early this morning on a major road in our city. It was early enough that not a lot of cars were on the road and I was at a stop light (first car in the lane) in a 2 lane road (2 lanes in each direction, 4 lanes total).

When the light turned green, I accelerated pretty quickly (in the hopes of not getting a red at the next intersection as this road toggles to red, upon red, upon red if you get caught at one red light). About 5 seconds into driving, I notice a red Toyota corolla suddenly to my RIGHT (in the right lane adjacent to me) revving heavy on the accelerator and accelerating as cause I could hear his engine heaving. (I thought in passing, "how funny he is trying so hard to go so fast, what is he trying to prove?")

He suddenly bypassed me (which I thought nothing of as I was not trying to race him)... when suddenly without signaling, he cut right in front of me (I was driving in the left lane of a 4 lane road, with 2 lanes going in each direction).

NOW... both lanes were empty and there was absolutely no reason for him to do a lane change into the left lane unless he wanted to do a left turn. But even then... there was no reason for him to accelerate so heavily and suddenly cut me off (without even doing a lane change signal).

THEN, to make things even worse, he suddenly braked hard and came to an almost standstill in front of me. I braked and moved our car to the right lane (without even looking.. thank GOD there was no car there in that lane) and missed rear ending him by inches (or 6 inches).

I was so shaken... and so incredibly angry.

What was up with that behavior? Is that normal for another driver to do that? We've driven and owned different models and makes of cars (Toyota, Mazda, and Lexus and have never faced such behavior before).

It seemed very intentional, and very malicious for some unknown reason.

I took a photo of his license plate and have half a mind to write about the incident to our local police department.

You may have done something earlier to upset him. I doubt this was because you were driving a Porsche.

Sounds like insurance fraud.

That sounds like some BS like you see on those Russian dash cam videos that you see on YouTube where people throw themselves in front of cars to get the insurance money. It sounds like someone saw a nice car that had great insurance and tried to scam you. Moral of the story: some people suck.

You might have pissed him off because of your beautiful Porsche or you just did something to upset him - anyways, there are always people like that. Let's just be more careful to not accelerate it to a worse level of road rage.

It's never worth it.

There are nuts everywhere. My brother has a pressure washing company in Tucson to remove graffiti and the guys in the trucks run into kooks all the time. It's sad. Best thing is to turn the other cheek.

Yeah, some people change when on the road, don't know maybe because of the heat or traffic and etc. Just keep your temper at all times, after all we all just want to reach our destinations.

I think Mark is right. It could be for insurance or whatsoever. It could also be that driver is trolling around like I've seen on social media. Anyhow, good job for holding your temper, and reporting to the police might clarify you why this happened.

How was things here? Do you have updates for this?

Some people, in cars you wouldn't expect (like a Toyota Corolla) think you simply driving your Porsche, minding your own business, is enough for them to live out their fast and furious fantasies.

Like another person said, it also could have been something you did. Perhaps you cut them off and didn;t even realize it. There is always two sides to the story. At the end of the day all you can do is just be careful and do what is in your power to avoid an accident.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it to much. Good on you for being able to avoid an accident. That is what matters most. I spend alot of time on the road, between my trucking business here in Texas and in my spare time, driving my sportscars. Check out my trucking website.

There are really a lot of ill-mannered drivers in the world.

I think not all are stupid

Sometimes I saw porsche on the road with a slow speed. They did all that when they reaches the busy places, coz their muffler goes crazy anytime they step on the gas. So not all porsche driver are stupid. "Stupid is Stupid does". - Immigration Attorney Philadelphia

Yeah that's really true. Some drivers have an ego as high as the skyscraper. I drove in top driveways everyday everytime I go to work, you just can see these drivers almost everywhere in the road.

On the road, you can't escape from a careless driver, no matter how we drive safely.

The best thing to do is to keep your cool and always try to remember that jerks that you see on the road have to live with themselves for their whole lives. You on the other hand, will probably never have to interact with them ever again. Always good advice from your local Orange mobile mechanic.

Sounds exactly like an insurance scam. They seek out nice cars and slam on brakes in front of you, since usually itís the person that strikes from behind thatís at fault - ESPECIALLY when traffic is light because thereís less likelihood of witnesses to see what actually happened.
