The main thing to worry about on the roof is the condition of the plastic rear window. If that's in good shape then you're probably good to go. My top has some minor wear marks at the fold points. It's sort of a "fuzziness" where the top folds on itself and is purely cosmetic. Unless you are planning to show your car - as opposed to drive it - I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

As far as black goes it's a great look on the Boxster. However you need to be prepared to spend a lot of time keeping it looking good. Especially if it's what's referred to as "flat" black. Looks great when it's clean and shiney. Looks terrible with lots of swirl marks in it .
