I disconnected the battery when I stored my 2003 Boxster S last fall and closed the front trunk. Obviously since the lock is electric I can't open it. I tried putting a 6 amp battery charger on the red post in the fuse box and the ground on the door latch, but no signs of life. I have another charger with a start function, which I haven't tried yet, or I can located a battery, but my question is even if I hook a battery to the fuse box will it be able to complete a circuit with the car battery disconnected?
I know there is a manual way to open it, but if I can do this with an external battery it seems like might be easier than going in through the side panel. Thanks.

Yes it works even if the battery is out of the car...i know from experience. Just connect the battery to the teminal on the fuse panel and the door latch and hit the trunk release button. Don't even need to insert the key.
