Anybody have any coments on the tire pressure monitor option?
I'm specing out a new Cayman S (Dec. delivery) and I'm curious to see if anyone has this option and if they they find it useful. Does it give PSI for each tire or is it just an idiot light system?
thanks. |

IMHO it is very useful. I have it on my 06 987S. The system gives you individual readings for each tire as well as notification when the pressure drops more than 6 lbs.(don't quote me on the exact numbers as I don't have my manual in front of me) The pressure readings can be pulled up very easily on the OBC. The system will work with either 18" or 19" wheels. It is also possible to adjust it if you change wheel sizes at a later date.
Especially since there is no spare tire, I believe it is crucial to get as early a notification as possible.

Your call....
I have it on my 2005 Nissan Murano and it came in handy when I had a nail in one of my tires. It told me which tire (once I figured which # corresponded with which tire) had tghe leak and made it very easy to identify the leak early so I could get it repaired before the tire was shot. On the other hand.... It is the only car I have ever had it on and I have survived thus far.

:) I think Porsche may have made up my mind for me...
I just saw the 2007 order guide for the base Cayman and it looks like they are making the TPMS standard (so I would assume it will also be standard on the S)
So my current options list is: Black w/ Sand beige sport seats Bose Heated Seats TPMS if its not included Colored crests on the standard Cayman 18" wheels So as soon as Rector gets their October build allocation I'm putting in an order. |

When I was ordering my Cayenne I got the TPMS. I like the system. It works pretty well. Individual PSIs (or BARs if you so desire) and it will tell you how much air to put in low tires. I like having as much info on my car as possible. In the Cayenne, it will even monitor the tire pressure of you spare (so long as it is a full size.) You will not regret getting it.
