Clinking metal sound at idle only

Hello all,

In my 2001 Boxster S, I have a tinny sounding clinking at idle only. It isn't always there, but usually, and mostly after car has warmed up. It occurs only at idle, and sounds as if someone is clinking a piece of metal somewhere in the engine area at random intervals, about once every 2 seconds on average. Can best be heard outside the car.

Anyone have any idea what this is?

Usually it is a heat shield for the muffler.

I have a clinking - tiny bells sound at idle...

but, it's from the clutch area as it goes away when I engage the clutch.

Ya, I am wondering if it is clutch related..I hear a bit of same rattle as I engage the clutch. Could cause this when it wears out?

If there is the possibility of having some loose metal inside your transmission,
I would see a Porsche mechanic right away. A good Porsche mechanic can quickly tell you if you have a problem.

Sounds more likely that it's related to the older problem of a noisy throwout bearing.
