bad news! didnt buy! mechanical issues during inspection!

mechanic found an oil leak in "camshaft housing or something. he said it was very expensive to fix and can get worse.
he also found some evidence of coolent mix/colent leaking from engine. or something to that effect. not sure of details since im not a mechanic. he recommended that i walk away. he said that early boxsters had problems with coolent going into the engine, thus causing engine failures. I was very disappointed since i really wanted the car. My wife was also disappointed. The seller said he will take it to the dealer to have it checked since it was still under warranty (extended warranty). any thoughts?

Re: yikes!

sounds like the infamous RMS problem. Porsche is usually pretty good at replacing engines on cars with these problems. I think if they replace the engine, then it might be worth considering....

I heard that porsche will replace engines on out-of-warranty boxsters with the RMS problem.

Actually. IT wasnt RMS. Mechanic said that it was a camshasft housing

seal was leaking. which has nothing to do with RMS. RMS was fine.

And another main issue was the dry flakes on bottem of engine from coolent leaking.

Still very disappointed. I really wanted the car!

looking for used boxster has worn me down. should i just get a new one?

since it is end of the year, dealers are discounting boxsters up to 11 percent off msrp.so a new boxster on sale for around 39k plus fees (stripped model).
Or still look for used boxsters? hmm

this is wearing me down.

Any thoughts????
