Arrow Porsche No. 1 will be at Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach, California - The very first Porsche, built in 1948, will be featured at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which will run August 17 at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.

Porsche No. 1 was built finished on June 8, 1948 after Dr. Ferry Porsche said,

“I couldn’t find the car I’d been dreaming of, so I decided to build it myself.”

The car went through several owners before being recovered in 1958 and returned to Porsche’s headquarters in Stuttgart, where it has remained.

Thumbs up

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

Once each year, on a Sunday in August, 175 of the most prized collector cars in the world roll onto what is often called the best finishing hole in golf — the famed eighteenth fairway at Pebble Beach. Tire meets turf and transformation occurs: the stage is set for one of the most competitive events in the automotive world. The occasion is the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The Concours is not a contest of speed, but of excellence. Automobiles are judged for their historical accuracy, their technical merit and their style. And the best garner reward and recognition.

Thousands of enthusiasts are on hand to celebrate these cars and enjoy the company of others who share their passion.

The 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance featured the marques of Aston Martin and Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg, and celebrated the 75th anniversary of the iconic 1932 Ford. A special class called the “10-plus Club” focused on cars involved in the early push to power, cars with engines displacing 10 liters or more. Not one but two classes honored preserved automobiles; in addition to prewar cars, there will be a new class for cars from the postwar era. And there was a class for Brooklands race cars.

The 2008 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance will feature Lancia and Lamborghini and celebrate the centennial of General Motors, and there will be several other special classes, including a class of early London to Brighton Veteran Car Run participants.
