01' Boxster Windshield Replacement

I need a windshild replaced on my 01' Boxster. Is this an easy job for an auto glass company - or it advisable to have the dealer do the job ?
( I think the dealers have outside auto glass companies do it anyway )
Does the front plastic trim need to come off behind the wiper arms etc ?
Thanks ............

I think you/re right, the dealership is going to take it to an auto glass shop, charge you a "small handling" fee and take an extra day or two to get you back into your ride...I'd eliminate the middle man and go to the auto glass shop to begin with.

Watch for a reply from Pedro...I think he runs a Porsche shop in SoCal and may have some insider info for you.

A couple of owners have had their windsheilds replaced. Some have even used mobile units to get it done with good results. You can also call the dealer to see who they recommend you use.

Outside Mobile

Thanks Guys, Yea, the dealers do use outside shops to do the glass.
I have a local mobile shop looking into doing it now. Problem is - Farmers Insurance is cheap and will only pay for a Chinese product to go in.
I'm gonna go out of pocket for OEM glass replacement .
I'll let ya know how it goes .........

Talking Radio antenna connection

Just an update on my windshield replacement .
Had a local company replace it. I called everyone I knew for location of the antenna connection with no luck .
The antenna connector wire is about six inches long and comes off the windshield on the passenger lower corner inside of the glass. It is connected inside the passenger windshield pillar - under the pastic trim. So you need to remove the flip down visor screws and pry off the pillar plastic to access the small white connector before removal of windshield. Apparently on some upgraded sound system models there are connectors on the driver side as well. My Boxster has standard radio / cd player.
Good Luck , this information is hard to find !
