And for our Chicagoland Boarders here's something interesting...

Volo Auto Museum Unveils the Blues Brothers Exhibit June 23, 2001

VOLO, Ill., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Look Out! The "Blues Brothers" are back in town and they're at the Volo Auto Museum.

The year was 1979. The place was Wauconda, Illinois, just five or so miles south of Volo. The Highway: Route 12. The action: the Blues Brothers leading a police chase to Chicago. The extreme action: unforgettable police car crashes in Wauconda -- cars crashing over an embankment off Highway 12. And most memorable -- the airborn police car crashing through the side of a semi trailer. Great fun. And great music, too.

Jake and Elwood Blues -- the Blues brothers -- were on a mission from God to save an orphanage, in a tired, old retired police car from Mount Prospect, Illinois. To a dismayed Jake, fresh out of prison and riding in this Police Car, Elwood put begs this question, "Its got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant. Its got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, it's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. Whaddya say? Is it the new 'Bluesmobile' or what?"

Well here you go. 22 years later and they're back. One of the many tableaus at the Volo Auto Museum, this display features life size figures of the Blues Brothers -- Dan Akroyd and John Belushi. And the old, well worn, clapped out 1974 Dodge 440 police car full of treasured memories.

The Bluesmobile unveiling celebration is Saturday, June 23.

And the band plays on -- the "AFFECTS", Tony Shemberger's 50's & 60's Rock and Roll band will be spankin' the hits all afternoon.

Volo Auto Museum also presents: THE 3 MOST FAMOUS CARS IN TV HISTORY.

Bo Duke's own General Lee from the hit show "The Dukes of Hazzard"; the K.I.T.T. stunt car from the TV smash, "Knight Rider"; and the most famous TV star car of all time. Everybody's just bats about this one. Zowie, what a howl of a hit. And a wow of a hint.

The Blues Brothers exhibit joins many other star car displays like the famous and infamous "Boothill Express" the most highly publicized Rod & Custom of all time; a flamboyant red and black 1960 Buick LeSabre, star of the movie, "Right of Way", with Jimmy Stewart and Bette Davis; the bonbon pink and white Lincoln Mk 4 that belonged to the "disappeared" candy heiress Helen Brach, the 1993 Corvette ZR-1, the first one, built by Chevrolet especially for Michael Jordan; the 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera, created to satisfy Scotty Pippen's personal desires; Natalie Wood's 1963 Buick Riviera -- all those and many more.

Volo Country Village has been extensively renovated. Trees, flowers, a beautiful park with old world fountains, the works. A newly created old-time gas station welcomes visitors to the new Volo Gift Shop with its extensive selection of automotive related items -- including a huge collection of automotive books. In short, something for everyone. Tickets to the auto museums are sold here, and just beyond, some 250 collectible cars await visitors' pleasure in four display salons. Almost all these cars are for sale, and it's these sales that keep the museums fresh, with up to 80 new additions every month.

All that and the most extensive selection of die cast miniature automobiles ever, in the showrooms of Gearhead Hobbies.

The 4 Volo Auto Museums and 3 large Antique Malls are located near the junction of Illinois highways 12 and 120, about 50 miles northwest of Chicago and 50 miles southwest of Milwaukee. Hours are 10 to 5 -- seven days a week. Visitors are also welcome at the Volo Auto Museum's internet site: www.volocars.com . Or for further information, phone 815-385-3644.

And if it ever stops raining...

I will try it out. Since Boeing decided to leave the wet comforts of Seattle to set up a new HQ in Chicago last month it has been raining here with temperatures averaging 22 degrees F below normal.

I sit in my Boxster in the garage and make "voom voom" noises.

Ditto for Milwaukee,

the site for parts of the chase scene footage. Remember the incomplete bridge?
