I Bet You Haven't Seen A GT3 Quite Like This One...

First I'd like to say that the Diablo Regional Drivers Ed event at Thunder Hill today was a blast! This was the largest turnout that they've had at Thunder Hill as I understand it. It was my first time on the track and I learned many important lessons.

The photos bellow show the greatest lesson of them all:

turn 8? turn 1?

where ever it was he was going waaaaaaaaaaaaay fast and in waaaaaaaaaaaay over his head...

I have seen Porsches on their lids before(at the track), but never with that amount of intrusion into the cabin.

I see from the left rear wheel that he went off side ways and the tire dug in and that probably caused the flip. Rookie mistake....trying to be a hero and trying to save it instead of just driving it off and bruising your pride.

so that will make a great "parts" car now.....

was anyone hurt, instructor on board?

Turn 8... The driver was actually a seasoned driver and older gentleman. I don't know him by name, but I know he was in group C (the most experienced folks). No passenger thank god. It is hard to see, but the axel on that driver's side rear wheel is bent about 30 degrees outward on the bottom side. That rim grabbed a big head of dirt and took the whole car air born.

The driver was fine. It all happened right before the lunch break. He went home fairly soon after. I heard that he is a dentist by profession. I doubt the fellow will be investing in a new GT3 anytime soon. I really feel sorry for the guy. A few minutes prior that car was one of the most beautiful Porsches out there that day.

Why such snippy remarks "silly rich Dentist"??? What does someones' profession all of the sudden have to do with a crash?? This is appalling, people on this post shouldn't be judging or second guessing on someone's misfortune, totally uncalled for in this forum.....especially from an Instructor...you weren't there, maybe a driver in front was doing something weird, maybe someone came hot to the inside....who knows, except the people that were in close proximity....it is very unfortunate that a beautiful example of a Porsche will be sold for parts....Oooops, won't fit on Boxsters...this could have happened to anybody....including people who get paid big bucks as professional drivers and they even crash much more more expensive cars....at least this person had sense enough to invest in some excellent safety equipment that probably prevented more serious injury
