Porsche Wins!

MONTEREY, Calif. (May 20, 2007)

From on the scene reporter Diva Driver Dede

The Ruby Tuesday Porsche Team takes the race.
It was an very exciting race. Only 15 of the 20 starters finished. #99, the Pontiac was in the #1 pole position and favored to win.
Ruby T. was in # 3 pole position. (The other 2 Porsche teams, Red Bull Porsche, Crown Regal & Brumos, I think, were #5 , 7 & 8 pole) (RB & CR might be a fun drink for Gerry an Elena) The Pontiac lead through most of the race. It's a timed race, and not a lap race. There is a mandatory pit stop after a prescribed time. Ruby T. pitted on a yellow flag and ended up way back in the pack. The Pontiac pitted.....The car was dropped off the jack before the crew member on the right front wheel had a time to torque it down. The driver was given the signal to GO. Panic. The car had to be re-jacked and the wheel torqued. The driver was again given the signal to GO. He hesitated. I think 15 to 20 seconds were lost. The Pontiac never regained the lead. All the other cars had to pit. The deck was re-shuffled.

Kevin and I moved from the start line/pit-grandstands to the Corkscrew and turn 6. With seven minutes left, Ruby had been in first for a long time. Red Bull Porsche was in 4th and made a successful move to overtake 3rd. Porsche is now in 1st and 3rd with only seven minutes left. GO PORSCHE!!! Red Bull then makes a move for 2nd... ends up in the beach...debris on the track. YELLOW FLAG. The race ends on a yellow. Not the way the fans like to see it end, but from what I could see, there was no way the second place challenger could pull even close to Ruby T. through the last part of the race. Second place was only there because of the pit re-shuffle.

Next Laguna Seca event for us, the Pre-Historics, one week prior to the actual race. No admission. Rick J. --LPR recommended it to us.

Then, Saturday in October for the American Le Mans Series. Tons of Porsches.

Because the October main event is on Saturday we won't be spending the night at our favorite Hotel, Best Western Monterey Beach Resort. (Darn) It's literally 100 feet from the ocean. Has a pool and hot tub (which we enjoyed) and a Restaurant that over looks the ocean an the lights of Monterey. The breakfast menu is $6.95 to $10.95 and dinners are $15.95 to 29.95 with most entrees around $20. Highly recommed it.
