Join the Fall Frolic !

What: A Fall Frolic drive
When: October 13th & 14th
Where: Through the scenic Feather River canyon and historic Hwy 49

The goal of this drive is to view the fall colors while driving trough the very scenic Feather River canyon and Plumas county. There will be an overnight stay in the golf resort community of Graeagle.

Plans:

The primary meeting place will be the parking lot at Safeway. This is the same location that was used for the "See the World" drive up Mt. Diablo last April. We will depart from there promptly at 9:00 AM on the 13th. For those wishing to attend from more northerly points a pick-up point can be arranged along the way.

The route will take us out the valley and up Hwy 99 to Oroville. The group will stop in the vicinity of Oroville for lunch. From Oroville we will head on over to Hwy 70 and the Feather River canyon. For those that have not driven this road before it is scenic in its own right. In Fall it can be gorgeous. There are several historic tunnels as well as small hydroelectric dams along the route. Several photo opportunities exist should the group wish to take a short break.

The days drive will terminate in Graeagle (about 26 miles past Quincy on Hwy 70) where we will spend the night at the River Pines Resort. Please be sure to make your reservation far enough in advance by calling (800) 696-2551. Room rates are $65-$75 and include a Continental breakfast. They also have a very good full restaurant available for breakfast. Dinner plans for Saturday call for driving a few miles back up Hwy 70 to the Mt. Tomba Inn.

Sunday morning will be some free time. Those of you who golf should have time before lunch to get in a few holes. Non golfers will be able to stroll around the many small shops in the town, just kick back and relax, or explore some of the surrounding areas such as historic Johnsville. Several lunch places exist in the community. There is a good restaurant next to the general store. The group will head out after lunch (around 1 PM) and take Gold Lake Rd and Hwy 49 back down to Auburn. From Auburn we'll join up with I-80 and the rest of civilization.

Feel free to check out Graeagle and the surrounding area at http://www.graeagle.com.

Please send a confirming e-mail to [email protected] to confirm your participation.

Meeting Map

Here's a map of the planned Fall Frolic meeting place. Take I-680 to Crow Canyon Rd and proceed west on Crow Canyon. Head South on San Ramon Blvd for a short distance and turn into the parking area.
