just finished reading the flame about TBHL...how was Death Valley?

Can't say I'm surprised by the diverse comments OTOB. Must be age, but just like concerts, I prefer a much smaller venue when it comes to the board.

As I recall Robin or some others were planning on going through Death Valley, or returning. How was it? I stopped there on the way home from IV, thoroughly enjoyed TBHL(made the best of it as they say), and I enjoyed the small group that stayed over at the Furnace Creek Inn. I enjoyed the heat, the bats flying around at night, the pool, and absolutely bombing down those old two lane highways!

I think I enjoyed TBHL IV due to the size of the group, a good contingent of babblers were there, as was my wife, we made a fun trip out of it and stopped at Yosemite on the way out, and had a nice trip through DV on the way back. Making a "group thing" out of the whole entire trip would be an ultra drag.

Glad to see the Nurses were there, just wonder why they were busting out in real time and fuzzed out in kodak time? ;-)

There is a trip to the Rockies that sounds like it would be awsome, wish I had the time/freedom to attend that one.

Glad to be a Babbler!

Re: just finished reading the flame about TBHL...how was Death Valley?

Death Valley was terrific. Unfortunately, we didn't get the heat as we did last year, however it was warm. (Low 80's.) Kevin, Howard and myself stopped over on the return trip from TBHL and had a great time. Four hours by the pool, I lost count on the cocktails, and then dinner at their restaurant (which has been better in the past), and a sit by the fire poolside after dinner was just a wonderful way to unwind from our TBHL activities as we set off on the journey the following day back home.

I really enjoy the FC and would like to take a couple of days to relax there sometime. Same as ever, great pool, lots of bats and just a wonderful place to be.

With regards to the nurses... "no comment".

Yup, it was a great way to end the trip...

Great environment and great company with Robyn and Howard. And I really love blasting through the desert as well. I took back roads most of the way from Death Valley to Bakersfield which made the drive back a lot less boring.

on TBHL IV I took Sonora Pass (108)

That was a trip - shoot up 395 and avoid all the CHP and then go West on Hwy 108 - made for go carts! Absolutely WILD - Mr. Toads type of ride. The Army has a winter training grounds up there you go by too.

If you go again, and can spare the time, I'd take 108 back into the bay area. It about a 10 hour drive - less if the gods are with you and you end up dropping into Manteca/Tracy....

108 was closed..

All of the passes were closed from 395.

And...on 395 on the return trip from DV to Reno... 9 CHP's...it was miserably slow!! But the weather was terrific...mother nature smiled on our drive both going and coming.

Robyn

The picture below is of Jas at Lake Topaz on 395.

Here is 80

Again, mother nature was on her best behavior...the day before this picture was taken, that road had chain restrictions!
