I know that this has been covered before...

but does anyone have the difinative parts list and instructions in order to do an OBC hack on a 2001 S. I have been searching and coming up with many different parts and proceedures.

Sorry if this has been done, but I am new and having difficulty finding it.

Thanks in advance!

By the way, I have one wiring harness left!

First come, first served...

Send me an e-mail if you're interested.

OBC hack parts I just ordered last week

I posted a similar question here on September 9. Here's the list of parts I was able to come up with to do the OBC hack on my 2001. I ordered the parts from Suncoast and it came to just under $200 with shipping, and I might have the parts by Friday. I plan to do the 4 stalk hack, not the dash switch version of the OBC hack. I couldn't find any dealer that sold a pre-made wiring harness, but the more I read the instructions, the easier making the harness sounds.

The parts list is as follows:

4 stalk assembly: 996 613 219 10 EWC (replaces 991 613 219 00 EAK according to Suncoast)

OBC cap for stalk (shiny finish for 2001): 996 613 503 01 A 01

Connector for harness: 999 650 056 40
Connector cover: 999 650 057 40

[alternate part numbers for same connector parts from BMW are 61-13-8-365-304 and 61-13-8-365-302, but not really any cheaper than buying from Suncoast]

Gasket for steering column: 993 552 573 01 01 C (or cut a hole in your existing one)

There seems to be some disagreement as to wires. Some say you need 5 VW wires (part number 000 979 009) for the 2001 Boxster. Others say you need 3 VW wires of one type (000 979 009) and 2 VW wires of another type (000 979 101), and you need to cut and splice the wires. I ordered enough of each at $1.66 per wire to go either way, but am hoping that 5 of the 000 979 009 wires work so I don't have any spliced wires.

You'll also need a spade connector for one of the VW wires to connect to ground.

The best overview I found of the OBC hack is JB's OBC hack primer

There is no discrepancy...

you would need 3 of the 009's and 2 of the 101's if you are doing the stalk. The switch is different story. Remember that these wires are originally for VW and they just happen to work for the OBC hack. You still would need to splice the wires and cut them in half as the connectors required are different...(there are connectors at both ends..) I think TP had a good picture of the difference between the 2. I don't think there is a difference between the 01 and 02 (as the 02 OBC hack looks just like the 01's)

Oops

the VW wire part number should be 000 979 010, not 101!

At least one post I read (from Kemist) said for his 2001 the 010 wires didn't fit right, but he tried the 009 wires and the fit was much better on the gray instrument-side plug. He successfully used 5 of the VW 009 without any splices.

I still haven't received the parts from Suncoast, so I don't know the answer. But I did receive conflicting information, though it sounds like either the 009 or 010 approach will work.
