Porsche's 911 sales at record level in U.S.

Note: it's so typical of Porsche management to talk about maintaining a high standard...of profitability! (Porsche Chief Executive Wendelin Wiedeking said the company was convinced it would maintain a "high standard of profitability")

Porsche's 911 sales at record level in U.S.

DETROIT, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Sportscar maker Porsche said on Tuesday sales of its 911 model in the United States hit a record level last year despite the difficult economic environment.

In a statement issued at the Detroit auto show, Porsche's North America chief Frederick Schwab said U.S. sales of the 911 rose 18 percent to 10,763 units.

Porsche Chief Executive Wendelin Wiedeking said the company was convinced it would maintain a "high standard of profitability" in its current 2001/2002 business year.

Porsche had pre-tax profit of 592.4 million euros ($528 million) in its 2000/2001 fiscal year. It said in December that 2001/2002 pre-tax profit should at least match the previous year's level.

The company also announced in Detroit that its Carrera GT would have a production volume of about 1,000 units and that it planned market launches in 2003.

996 buyers who don't consider the Boxster are idiots

Hey, I got mine for the two extra seats (6yo Kes and 2yo Avedon).

The Boxster feels lighter and more balanced in all respects. Although I expect the 996 feels better at 150 MPH.
